From deanne at sonomaecologycenter.org Mon Feb 19 16:57:34 2007 From: deanne at sonomaecologycenter.org (Deanne DiPietro) Date: Mon, 19 Feb 2007 16:57:34 -0800 Subject: [Northbay-content] This week's Content Comm. meeting Message-ID: <7EC12973-05EF-46C4-9B9E-C35DAFE442B6@sonomaecologycenter.org> Hello Content Committee members, Would you think terribly less of me if I were to cancel this month's meeting (Feb 21)? I find I'm needing to focus on other projects and lack the time to coordinate us effectively and make the best use of your time. Perhaps we can do a double meeting next month (Mar 28, with the Developers mtg) if there is interest. Thank you for understanding. Some brief updates: - Our name is now the San Francisco Bay Area Conservation Commons. We have a new domain, calconservationcommons.net, anticipating a future California Conservation Commons with our region as one of many. - We had a Steering Committee meeting in January- please see notes on the SFBACC portal at http://sfbayarea.calconservationcommons.net/committees/steering- committee/. - Since then our developers have made further progress on the aggregation of our Project Description data. Check out the SFBACC Data Catalogs page, which gives you several options of different software we have developed and are testing for searching, linking, presenting, and editing the metadata. Perusing the metadata, from eight source databases, in these different ways is very interesting and will undoubtedly give us a lot of ideas about what we want next, in terms of functionality and content. Remember that talking on the listserv is a good way to collaborate, and your comments and discussions are archived. Your impressions about the newly visible metadata and the way the applications look and work would be great to hear. I was thinking that for one of our next meetings a demo from the lead developers of the innovations they are working on would help us all to understand the valuable work being done. What do you think about that? Deanne ------------------------------- Deanne DiPietro GIS & Information Services Program Manager Sonoma Ecology Center (707) 996-0712 Ext. 114
